The Mental Health Commission of Canada says Newfoundland and Labrador faces some of its own problems when it comes to treating mental health issues. The Committee is currently in the capital for its regular board meeting, but also took time to meet with several organizations in the community to discuss local issues of mental health. Jane Barker, Vice-President of the Commission on Mental Health, says there are common problems that face all provinces across Canada, including having adequate staff trained and available, and providing range of services from prevention and promotion, to aspects of early intervention, treatment, and ongoing support. She said that the difference of Newfoundland and Labrador is the degree of some of these issues. She said, as in the northern regions of the country, isolation is a major factor in this province.
