Cancer | Runners, Walkers Go Out For Race Against Prostate Cancer

A race in downtown Indianapolis has raised awareness of prostate cancer on Saturday.

The Little Red Door of Unite 2 Fight Race against the prostate cancer had 292 runners in the 5K competitive part of the event, according to the website Tuxedo Brothers Event Management.

Chris Colgan won the race with a time of 17:08.1. The fastest women was Sarah Overpeck, whose time was 20:34.5.

The road, which began at the National War Memorial in Indiana, has riders downtown.

Runners and walkers could also choose a 5K run or walk uncompetitive option or the Rev. Charles Williams 1-Mile Family Fun Walk.

The event was part of Indiana Black Expo summer celebration. The family walk was in memory of Williams, the former Indiana Black Expo president, died in July 2004 after a battle with prostate cancer.

Williams started the event, which includes on-site blood tests to screen for prostate cancer. When Williams was diagnosed, her cancer was in late stage and could not be cured.

The doctors will give prostate cancer screenings and health of others in the Black InShape Indiana Minority Health Fair, running Thursday through July 19 Hall D of the Convention Center of Indiana, 100 S. Capitol Ave. Hours vary.
